The Calgary Police Service (CPS) recognizes that Canadian Forces Military Police (MP) Officers often possess unique experiences similar to those found in their civilian police counterparts. These experiences may also qualify an interested party for special consideration within the CPS. It is important to note applicants will be assessed on a case to case basis.
Consideration Criteria - Military Police (MP)
Experienced Military Police Officers will have their CF service time recognized from the commencement of their Regular Force - Basic Military Police Training (QL3) to their release date (if employed in a garrison police role). Further MP applications must include:
- A completed Application Package that includes the Experienced Officer Disclosure Form,
- Include a resume and detailed list of any seminars and/or external courses obtained,
- Submit at least two years of Personnel Evaluation Reports (PERs) and a up to date Member’s Personnel Record Resume (MPRR), and
- QL3 course certificate.
Time spent in Basic Military Qualification (QL2), “Field Platoons’ or their equivalents do not qualify for this consideration.
With Advanced Military Police Training (QL5) and, if the following criteria are met, Military Police may have the written exam waived, if they have:
- At least two years of garrison policing experience over their MP careers,
- Currently employed as an MP with the Canadian Forces Military Police Branch or employed as such within the past year,
- Be in good standing with the CF, the Military Police Branch and be free and clear of any ongoing internal/external investigations or disciplines,
- Submit a completed Application Package that includes an Experienced Officer Disclosure Form,
- Submit at least two years of Personnel Evaluation Reports (PERs) and a up to date Member’s Personnel Record Resume (MPRR),
- Include a resume and detailed list of any seminars and/or external courses obtained, and
- QL3 and QL5 course certificate.
Upon completion of the selection process and selection, successful applicants will qualify for move incentives, limited cost recovery and flexible course dates to help alleviate CF release terms (if applicable).
